Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi National
Park
The park is located in the South
Western Uganda on the edge of the
western rift valley. Bwindi is home
to over 350 endangered Mountain
Gorillas which are quite possibly
the most awe-inspiring animals to be
found in Africa .There are also 346
species of birds and over 200
species of butterflies. Gorilla
trekking is the major tourist
activity in Bwindi with four groups
currently available daily for
tourists . Mubare group (10
gorillas; 1 silverback) was opened
for tourism in 1993,Habinyanja group
(18 gorillas, 2 silver backs) was
ready in July 1998. Rusheguru
group(10 members, 1silver back) was
opened in July 2002 while Nkuringo
group (19 gorillas , 2 silver backs
) was opened for tourism in April
2004 . Gorilla racking in Bwindi can
be challenging therefore ensure
physical fitness.It starts at
8:30a.m. local time and can last
from a few hours to day depending on
the movement of these giant apes.
3 DAY'S GORILLA TOUR.
Day 1.
Depart from Kampala at 8:00am and
head towards western Uganda. A brief
stop at the Equator allows time for
photographs. The journey affords
images from the vehicle of the long
horned Ankole cattle, the rolling
hills and terraced landscapes of the
region, and beautiful panoramas that
are part of Kabale District. We have
a lunch break en route at Lake View
Regency Hotel Mbarara. Drive direct
to the park and arrive late evening.

Day 2.
Very early in the morning after an
early breakfast and guides Very

off for your Gorilla tracking
activity in the forests of Bwindi.
Gorilla tracking can be strenuous,
you will need to carry a packed
lunch, drinking water, wear
comfortable boots or jungle shoes
suitable for steep muddy slopes ,put
on ear plugs for those who feel
uncomfortable with jungle sounds and
take a rain jacket. Walking sticks
will be made available for those
that require one by the park
rangers. Dinner and overnight at
lake kitandara luxury camp/Buhoma
community bandas.
Day 3.
An early breakfast at the camp
before the drive back to Kampala.
Lunch enroute. End of this Uganda
safari.
6 Days Uganda Gorilla Treks
Day 1
Arrive Entebbe International
Airport, you will be met at the
airport and transferred to the Lake
Victoria Hotel, Entebbe. Bed and
Breakfast only included. Depending
on your arrival time, a half-day
trip to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee
Reserve on Lake Victoria has been
arranged for this afternoon. [BB]
Day 2
We strongly recommend you FLY from
Entebbe to Bwindi or Kisoro today,
it's just under two hours by air and
is most scenic. Alternatively, we
will depart after an early breakfast
to to the west of Uganda, along
mountain roads to either Bwindi
Impenetrable Forest or Parc National
des Volcans, Rwanda gorilla
sanctuary - depending on where
permits are held. Overnight in en
suite chalet/lodge accommodation,
all meals included. It will be a
fairly long day in the vehicle,
passing some interesting scenery,
farmland and lush green hillsides.

Day 3
An early morning trek into the
forest on the slopes of the
volcanoes, led by experienced
trackers will bring you amongst a
family of Mountain Gorillas. These
massive primates are extremely rare,
only approximately 650 remaining.
You will get within metres of the
family, and be privileged to spend
time amongst them. Returning to the
camp for a late lunch, we have an
opportunity for forest walks with
the guides, or just to relax.
Overnight lodge or camp. The
trekking may be fairly strenuous; up
to six hours or longer is not
uncommon - at relatively high
altitude. Mountain Gorillas are wild
animals, as such sightings cannot be
guaranteed, however the success rate
is well over 90%. [BLD]
Day 4
Today, those who have opted for two
gorilla treks, will set off once
again into the forest in search of
one of the gorilla families. Those
persons not trekking will be able to
go on a forest walk in Bwindi
looking for birds and primates with
a local knowledgeable guide, or go
on a local community village walk (Bwindi
or Rwanda). This has been included
in your tour. Relax for the
afternoon at your camp, or possibly
go and do some curio shopping along
the road, or visit a local village
where you may be treated to some
dancing etc. Overnight Bwindi /

Day 5
The road to Kabale takes you into
the Uganda Highlands - the
Switzerland of Africa - with great
views and vistas of this lush green
area. From here we continue, heading
towards Kampala on good tarmac roads
to Lake Mburo National park. This
small park offers a great variety of
game. Here you may go on a walk with
a local guide, or on game drives
exploring this park. [BLD]
Day 6
Return to Entebbe, stopping en route
to shop for curios and at the Royal
Drum makers at Mpigi if desired. You
will be back in Entebbe mid
afternoon, in time for an early
evening flight out. [B]

A combination of good quality lodges
and hotels or camps are used

Visas, permits, drinks, travel

9 DAYS
Day 1:
Morning pick up from your overnight
accommodation in Kampala. Start 4 -
5 hour drive to Murchison falls
National Park. Transfer to the
Magnificent Top of the falls where
you will enjoy your picnic lunch as
you marvel at the Mighty Nile being
forced into a seven Metre crevice to
thunder 45 metres below in a series
of cascades. The Nile can be viewed
at different points up to the
Baker’s Summit. Dinner and overnight
at Sarova Paraa Lodge or Inns on the
Nile Camp.
Day 2:
After an early morning breakfast,
embark on a half day game drive on
the northern bank of the river Nile.
Escorted by game ranger, you may opt
for a game walk while trailing
animals and studying animal spoors.
Game in this area include Giraffe,
Elephant, Harte beest, Lion, Uganda
Kob, Oribi and a variety of savannah
and woodland birds. After lunch,
take a Nile Cruise for game viewing
at close quarters. This is a
paradise of the Hippo and
Crocodiles. Dinner and Overnight at
Sarova Paraa Lodge or Inns on the
Nile Camp.
Day 3:
Breakfast early, then transfer to
Budongo forest for a half day
Primate walk in search of primates.
On the walk, you may see Black and
white colobus monkey, Red tailed
monkey, Baboon, Grey cheeked
mangabeys or the chimpanzee. After
lunch in Masindi, transfer to
Kampala for dinner and Overnight at
the Sheraton Hotel.
Day 4:
Depart for Queen Elizabeth National
Park. En route, you could stop by
the Uganda Equator to take pictures
or shop for a souvenir. After lunch
at the Lake view Hotel in Mbarara,
head for the East African Rift
valley before arriving in Queen
Elizabeth National park. After an
evening game drive, transfer to your
accommodations for dinner and
overnight either at Mweya Safari
Lodge or Jacana Camp.
Day 5:
After an early morning cup of tea at
6:30am, depart for a game drive on
the northerly parts of the park
along the Kasenyi track. This is the
best time for opportunities of
viewing the cats in action. Later,
return for breakfast. In the
afternoon, take another boat cruise
on the Kazinga for solitary Buffalo,
Hippo and other animals at the edge
of the channel as they cool off.
European migrant birds like the
terns and gulls congregate here in
large flocks. Dinner and overnight
either at Mweya Safari Lodge or
Jacana Camp.
Day 6:
After a relaxed breakfast, transfer
to the gorilla sanctuary through
this beautiful mountain scenery
referred to as the little
Switzerland. Dinner and overnight at
Gorilla Forest Camp or Mgahinga
Safari Lodge.
Day 7:
After breakfast and briefing by park
ranger guides. Later with picnic
lunch, start a 30 minutes - 8 hours
trek to find the Mountain gorillas.
The tracking starts at the area
where the gorillas were the previous
day. After a full hour with the
gorillas, return to your
accommodations for dinner and
overnight. Gorilla Forest Camp or
Mgahinga Safari Lodge.
Day 8:
After breakfast, transfer to Mbarara
arriving in time for lunch at the
Lakeview Hotel. Later head for
Kampala and transfer to your
accommodations.
Day 9:
Airport transfer for out bound
flight.
