10 Days Uganda Bird watching Safaris Day 1:
You shall be picked from Entebbe
International Airport by our guide
to Windsor Lake View Hotel for your
overnight.
Day 2:
Early in the morning get your
breakfast and our guide will lead
you to the Botanical Gardens-Entebbe
and later to Mabamba swamp. Here you
will be in position to view
Brown-throated weaver, Yellow-billed
Duck, Broad-Billed Roller, Pied
Kingfisher, Swamp Flycatcher,
Long-tailed Cormorant, Giant
Kingfisher, Slender-billed Weaver,
splendid glossy Starling,
Golden-backed Weaver, Sedge Warbler,
Orange Weaver, Black-headed Gowolek,
Great Reed Warbler, and Vereaux’s
Eagle Owl, among others.
Back to the Hotel for an overnight
as you prepare the next day for
Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Day 3:
As early as 7.00 am enjoy your
breakfast and immediately our guide
will be ready to take you to Queen
Elizabeth National Park which is a
sanctuary to over 606 bird species.
Our experienced guide will lead you
to the most interesting habitats. In
this park you will be able to see
the most sought-after bird, the
Shoebill stork. In the afternoon,
proceed to Kazinga Channel. As you
boat-cruise along the channel the
numerous bird species will leave you
excited.
Have your wonderful overnight at
Mweya Safari Lodge
Day 4:
Have your breakfast early in the
morning and to the southern part of
the park, the Ishasha area. In this
area you will enjoy birding as birds
such as Martial Eagle, temminck’s
courser, rupell’s Griffon Vulture
and African Skimmer. From here
proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable
Forest National Park and access it
towards evening.
Have an overnight at Buhoma
homestead.
This national Park is the Bird
watchers’ paradise! Over 347 bird
species find their habitat in this
forest. Of special interest to
birders are 23 species endemic to
the Albertine Rift. Besides, 14
species are recorded no where else
in Uganda, such as white-tailed
flycatcher, African green broadbill,
brown-necked parrot, white-bellied
robin chat and Frazer’s eagle owl.
This is a home to 90% of all
Albertine endemics.
Day 5:
After breakfast, you can now go
birding in Bwindi Impenetrable
Forest. You will view the Equatorial
Akalat, Black-faced Rufous Warbler,
Montane Oriole, Cuckoo-shrike,
Red-throated Alethe, Grey-capped
Warbler, and Lehrer’s Bush-shrike
among others.
Retire to Buhoma homestead for an
overnight.
Day 6, 7 and 8:
At 7.30 am take your breakfast and
move to Ruhija for more birding. In
this place, the terrain is
mountainous and covered by bamboo
forests. This area is rich in birds
such as purple-breasted sunbird,
Waller’s chestnut-winged starling,
Archer’s robin-chat, Handsome
Francolin, Dusky crimson wing,
Mountain yellow warbler, Mountain
Illadopsis, and Stripe-breasted tit.
Now before the end of the day move
to Mbarara’s Rwizi Arch Hotel for a
dinner and an overnight.
The third day proceed for dinner and
overnight in Mburo National Park,
Mantana Tented Camp.
Day 9:
At 8.00 am enjoy your breakfast,
proceed to Lake Mburo National Park,
and view the savannah bird species
endemic to the swampy places and
lakeshores of Lake Mburo. Over 315
species of acacia-associated birds
have been confirmed in this place.
Rwonyo Camp is suitable for
birdwatchers interested in birds
such as Black-bellied bustard,
barefaced go-away bird, Mosque
swallow and Rupell’s long-tailed
starling. Other birds recorded in
the park include the Southern ground
Hornbill, black-throated and
black-collared barbets, and
green-capped eremomela. The swamps
are of special interest to birders.
Six papyrus endemics are present in
this area, including the brilliantly
colored papyrus gonolek, the highly
localized white-winged and papyrus
yellow warblers, and the striking
blue-headed coucal.
Back to Entebbe. Stay for an
overnight at Botanical Beach hotel
as you prepare the next day to take
your flight back home at Entebbe
International Airport.
Day 10:
Reserved to the airport transfer or
extensions.

Day One: On your arrival at Entebbe
International Airport, our tour
guide with a placard bearing your
name will transfer you to Entebbe
Botanical Gardens for an evening
birding depending on the time of
your arrival.
Have a dinner, overnight and
breakfast at Entebbe Botanical Beach
Hotel (FB)
Day Two: After an early breakfast
our tour guide will transfer you to
Semliki, lunch en route.
A dinner and an overnight at Semliki
Safari Lodge (FB)
Day Three: After breakfast, move to
Semliki and spend a day in the park
birding. The area around geothermal
hot springs at Sempaya is a great
bird sanctuary. Meet the crepuscular
Freckled Nightjar and
Black-shouldered nightjar behind the
cliffs. It is possible to glimpse
African Wood Owl, African Goshawk,
Ayres’ Hawk-Eagle, red-thighed and
Great Sparrowhawks, and Cassin’s
Spinetail. Along the Kirumia Trail
you will be able to see Congo biome
species which include, African
Piculet, Black-chested Cuckoo,
Red-Billed, Black wattled, black
bill and White Crested hornbill,
zenkel Honey guide, Rufous sided
Broadbill. Others include
Spot-breasted Ibis, Chestnut-flanked
Goshawk, Long-tailed Hawk, Nkulengu
Rail, Bronze-naped pigeon,
Hartlaub’s Duck, Black Dwarf,
Northern Bearded Scrub Robin,
Lemon-bellied Crombec, Black-winged
Oriole, Maxwell’s Black weaver,
Red-bellied Malimbes,
Chestnut-breasted Negrofinches,
Ituri Batis and Brown-crowned
Eremomela among others. All three of
the widespread illadopses, Brown,
pale-breasted and Scaly-breasted are
common in this area and respond
readily to tape recordings.
Back to Semliki Safari lodge a
dinner and overnight (FB)
Day Four: After breakfast spend
another day in Semliki national park
birding. Depending on the
performance of the previous day, you
may go back to Kirumia River Trail,
or move to Sempaya Trail.
Day Five: After breakfast our tour
guide will transfer you to Kibale
national Park. Kibale is an
extensive national park, protecting
a large block of rain forest that
offers some excellent forest
birding. It is the biggest sanctuary
for primates in the whole of East
Africa. Superb birds and primates
combined and a good infrastructure
plus a variety of activities make
this rainforest a rewarding tourist
destination.
Begin birding in Sebitoli site. You
will be surprised by this place - it
is comparable to none other. Along
the main road the results will be
quite satisfactory. Key species in
this place include Toro Olive,
cuckoo, Cabanis, Olive long tailed
cuckoo, Black-faced Rufous warbler,
Green Twinspot, Brown and Scaly
breasted illadopsis, green-throated
and blue-throated sunbird,
white-throated and yellow whiskered
Greenbuls, blue-shouldered robin
chat, green-breasted and African
Pitas, brown-capped weaver, bocage’s
bush-shrike, velvet-mantled drongo,
Ludher’s bush-shrike, and
pink-footed puff back.
Have a dinner and an overnight
Margherita Hotel (FB)
Day Six: After breakfast move with
packed food and spend the day
birding in Rwenzori National park.
Some of the birds to see in Rwenzori
Mountain national park include:
Albertine Rift endemics such as
Rwenzori Turaco, Handsome Francolin,
Dwarf Honeyguide, Kivu Ground
Thrush, Red-throated Alethe,
Archer’s Robin-chat, Rwenzori Batis,
Blue-headed, Regal and
Purple-breasted Sun-birds, Dusky and
Shelley’s Crimsonwings, Montane (Rwenzori)
Nightjar, Stripe-breasted Tit and
Montane-masked and collared Apalises;
and Others such as - Lammergeier,
Red-thighed Sparrowhawks, African
Long-eared Owl, Barred Long-tailed
Cuckoo, Olive woodpecker, Western
Green Tinkerbird, Grey-chested
illadopsis, Evergreen Forest and
Bamboo Warblers, Montane Sooty
Boubou, Golden-winged and
Scarlet-tufted Malachite, Red-faced
Crimsonwing, Oriole-Finch, and
Lagden’s Bush-shrike.
Day Seven: After breakfast transfer
to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for
more birding. Your area of
concentration will be the southern
part of the park. From Queen
Elizabeth national park it is
accessed via the southern sector at
Ishasha - the sanctuary of
Tree-climbing lions.
Have a dinner and an overnight at
Gorilla Resort.
Day Eight: After breakfast carry out
birding in the park for the whole
day. Bwindi Impenetrable National
Park offers some of the finest
montane forest birding in Africa and
is a key destination for any birder
visiting Uganda. At least 23 of
Uganda’s 24 Albertine Rift endemics,
including spectacular, globally
threatened species such as African
Green Broadbill and Shelley’s
Crimsonwing. It is the richest
Forest in East Africa in terms of
its trees, butterflies and birds.
There are some important bird spots
in the park such as Ruhizha,
Kitahurira and Buhoma. The ranger
station at Ruhizha is situated at an
altitude of 2300m, with
breath-taking views over steep,
forested valleys towards the distant
Virunga Volcanoes. Ruhizha has an
excellent birding in spectacular
surroundings.
Special birds in the park generally
include Montane Masked Apalis,
Yellow-eyed Black-Flycatcher, Dusky
Tit, Mountain Illadopsis,
Blue-throated Brown Sunbird,
Grauer’s Warbler, Chapin’s
Flycatcher, Ashy flycatcher,
Red-throated Alethe, Black-faced
Rufous Warbler, African Green
Broadbill, Rwenzori Batis,
Black-and-white Shrike-flycatcher,
African Hill Babbler, Pink-footed
Puffback, Chin-spot Batis,
Mackinnon’s Fiscal, Grey-headed
Sunbird, Northern double-collared
Sunbird, Banded Prinia,
Narrow-tailed Starling, Brown-capped
Weaver, Thick-billed Seedeater,
Doherty’s Bush-shrike,
Yellow-bellied Waxbill, Golden
Oriole, Sooty Boubou, Neumann’s
Warbler, short-tailed Warbler,
Red-faced woodland warbler, Western
Bronze-naped pigeon, Tullberg’s
woodpecker, Equatorial Akalat, Red-chested
Owlet, Archer’s Ground Robin,
Elliot’s woodpecker, Mountain
Buzzard, Streaky seedeater, Ayre’s
Hawk-eagle, and Bar-tailed Trogon
among others.
We start after breakfast, and
explore the Buhoma forest section.
Day 9: Spend the whole day birding
following the trail towards Ruhija.
Have a dinner and an overnight at
Ruhija Hostel.
Day 10: After breakfast spend the
day birding towards Mubwindi Swamp.
Day 11: Spend another birding day in
the Bamboo forests.
Day 12: Transfer to Kampala en route
birding.
Stay at Hotel Africana
Day 14: Take your flight back home
at Entebbe International Airport.
