Masai Mara's Wildlife
The Masai Mara reserve is Kenya's most popular game park
in Kenya. Masai mara hosts an amazing concentration of
wildlife. You are guaranteed to see the Big 5.
Lions abound throughout the park as do leopards,
cheetah, hyenas, giraffe, impala, wildebeest, topi,
baboons, warthogs, buffalo, zebra, elephants, and of
course hippos and crocodiles in the Mara River.
Samburu Safari
The first thing you'll notice on your Samburu Safari is
that it is worlds apart from the other parks in Kenya.
It is a hot and arid area characterised by a parched
landscape of hills and plains.
Good news for the safari enthusiast is that the
refreshing waters of the Ewaso Ngiro River run through
Samburu and attract plenty of wildlife - including
elephant, lion, giraffe and zebra. Leopards are also
regularly spotted.
Samburu is home to large herds of elephants and elusive
leopards. It is also well known for providing the
opportunity to see wildlife that only lives in the dry
north of Kenya. Your safari wouldn't be complete without
seeing a gerenuk - an odd yet distinguished gazelle with
a long neck, which stands on its hind legs to feed.
There is a good selection of safari lodges and luxury
tented camps in the Samburu Region. Samburu Intrepids
Club, Samburu Lodge and Elsa's Kopje are just some of
them.
Meru National Park - Meru wildlife lodge Safari
Meru National Park is, of course, the lonely wilderness
which became world famous as the place Elsa, the
lioness, was returned to the wild; the story of which
was told in Joy Adamson's book Born Free. The park is
about 80 kilometers east of Meru town and reached via a
reasonable road passing through luxuriant, partly
forested, farmland on the Nyambene Hills.
Of all the Kenya parks, Meru National Park presents the
widest variety of landscapes and habitats. Forest, swamp
and savannah are pierced by 15 perennial rivers all
rising on Mount Kenya and all destined to reach the Tana
River, which, just south of the equator, forms the
park's lower boundary. In this marvelous sanctuary a
great variety of wildlife exists, some in huge
quantities. All the Big Five are here and the Meru
National park is one of the best in which to locate
cheetah and leopard. |
