- 5 Days Masai Mara,Great Rift Valley Lake
Naivasha &Nakuru
Day 01: Nairobi - Masai Mara
After breakfast, we will pick you up from
your Nairobi hotel.
Depart for the Masai Mara Game Reserve,

Valley and at Narok town for lunch. Arrive
in time for a late afternoon/early evening
game drive in this ‘big game country’ famed
worldwide for it’s high animal
concentration, abundance and variety. Dinner
and overnight at the campsite.
Day 02: Masai Mara
Early breakfast then proceed for a full day
of tracking game with your guide in this
park whose landscape is savannah grassland
on rolling hills. Virtually every type of
animal is found in the Mara, which has an
extensive road, and track network, which
allows excellent photography and viewing
opportunities, making it the best and most
visited park in Kenya. We will cater for a
picnic lunch at the hippo pool. In the
evening, drive back to the campsite for
dinner and overnight.
Day 03: Masai Mara - Lake Naivasha
Early morning hot cup of coffee/tea at
0630hrs, then proceed on your final
pre-breakfast game drive. Return to the
campsite at 1000hrs for a late breakfast
then depart for Lake Naivasha with hot lunch
at Narok to arrive for a relaxing walk
through Hell's Gate National Park and enjoy
the geothermal tower.
Stay for dinner and overnight stay at
campsite.
- Lake Naivasha travel info
Lake Naivasha lies at about 1880 m but the
lake level does varies quite considerably.
In 1926 it was reported as 6 m higher. Eons
ago it was a great deal higher than that and
its waters gushed through Njorowa gorge,
which are now high above the lake and the
dramatic entrance to Hell's Gate National
Park. Lakes are not normally fresh unless
water can escape but there is now no visible
outlet to the lake. The supposition is that
there are underground seepages maintaining
the movement of fresh water brought into the
lake by the Gilgil and Malewa rivers in the
north.
Situated only about a 100 km from Nairobi
the lake has become a recreational centre
for Kenyans; there is a flourishing yacht
club and many private cabin cruisers and
other boats for fishing. All the land
surrounding the lake is in private hands, so
access to the water has to be through the
grounds of the two hotels on the southeast
shore or by the consent of the local
landowners.
Seasons:
From Oct-Mar, palearctic migrants join the
resident bird species.
Wildlife:
You should see: baboon, bushbuck, duiker,
Grant's gazelle, Thomson' gazlle, genet,
giraffe, hare, hartbeest, hippo, spotted
hyaena, hyrax, impala, jackal, mongoose,
vervet monkey, otter, waterbuck, zebra
You may see: aardwolf, civet, dik-dik,
bat-eared fox, porcupine, reedbuck, serval,
steinbok,
This lake is also a birdwatchers paradise.
There are over 450 species in the immediate
area including the highland escarpments,
which surround the lake to the south and
west.
Precautions
Malaria area - minimize mosquito bites by
wearing light, long sleeved clothing and
using effective insect repellents
(containing Diethyltoluamide DEET) on
exposed skin. Sleep under treated mosquito
netting or ensure that the doors and windows
of your accommodation are screened against
mosquitoes. Having a fan or air-conditioner
on at night will further suppress mosquito
activity. Currently, the three effective
anti-malaria tablets are Mefloquine (Lariam
or Mefliam), Doxycycline and Malarone (Malanil).
It is still possible to contract malaria
while on malaria prophylaxis. Note that
Lariam may present serious side-effects -
please test before you depart.
Day 04: Lake Naivasha - Lake Nakuru
After breakfast 0900hrs, you will leave for
Lake Nakuru to arrive for a game drive in
Nakuru Park, which has prolific bird life
including flamingos, white pelicans and the
marabou stork among others. Waterbuck and
Cape buffalo can be seen near the shoreline.
Rothschild’s giraffe and the white rhino are
additional attraction among other species of
plains game and cats like lion. With luck
you may spot leopard, which is rather
elusive. You will return to camp for dinner
and overnight.
Day 05: Lake Nakuru-Nairobi
Enjoy another last game drive at
0630-1000hrs at Lake Nakuru National Park.
Return to camp/Hotel for breakfast and
depart with picnic lunches en-route for
Nairobi to arrive in the city in the early
evening.
