freshen up and look around, there will be an
afternoon excursion to the Giraffe Centre where
the highly endangered Rothschild giraffe lives
in peace. With an elevated viewing and feeding
platform, this tour is wonderful for children.

Day 2: Aberdares (Approx 3hr drive)
After breakfast you drive North passing near
Thika which boasts the world's 3rd largest
pineapple plantation and is home to Del Monte,
and Karatina with its colourful market. Soon
you'll be at Nyeri, one of Kenya's major towns
and provincial headquarters before heading on to
the Aberdare Country Club, arriving in time for
lunch. During the afternoon, parents may take
part in one of the many optional excursions
available from the club or simply relax by the
pool or in the picturesque grounds.
After lunch, the children will meet the Club's
naturalist in the lobby and proceed on foot to
the Game Sanctuary. The walk will take around
1hr, during which time they will be able to
watch & learn about game, identify & study
birds, and listen to the many stories told about
life in the African bush by the guide. Even
before the group leaves the golf course, animals
like warthog and impala may be spotted. Apart
from the abundant fauna in the Game Sanctuary,
there is all the flora to learn about and
appreciate how it all relates to the wildlife
that lives around it. The game walk ends up at
the riding stables, where each child will have
an opportunity to ride a pony if they wish, and
perhaps learn how to groom and feed them as
well. On returning up the hill to the Club there
will be enough time to relax & clean up before
dinner.

Days 3-4: Samburu (Approx 2hr30min drive)
After breakfast at the Club you depart through
Nyeri, where you'll turn North on the main road
that takes you through Naro Moru - a haven for
trout fishermen and mountain climbers - and
Nanyuki, where you'll begin a journey across the
northernmost foothills of Mount Kenya,
eventually heading North to a dusty outpost
known as Isiolo. From here it's a fairly short
hop to your lodge in the heart of the Samburu
Reserve. After lunch there will be a game drive
into the reserve and children are most welcome.
However, there is also an Adventurers Club here
for the children to join and partake in their
exciting activities offered. The next day there
are 3 game drives throughout the day and
children can either join these or participate in
the various activities of the Adventurers Club.

Day 5: Mount Kenya (Approx 2hr drive)
Depart after an early breakfast, leaving
Samburu. You'll travel South through Isiolo,
crossing the northernmost foothills of Mount
Kenya, Africa's highest massif. As you go around
to the other side of the mountain, you'll come
to the town of Nanyuki, nestled in the lush
slopes of this mountain astride the equator.
Further North you'll turn off the main road at
Nanyuki town to head across the plains and enter
the private ranch of Ol Pejeta, and Sweetwaters
Camp.
After lunch there will be a game drive for the
parents followed by time to relax and enjoy the
surroundings or partake in any of the other
activities here. Children will meet with a
naturalist and depart in a 4x4 safari vehicle
for an afternoon of adventure & education. 1st
stop will be at Morani & Blow. Morani (which in
Masai means Warrior) is the name of the tame
black rhino originally rescued as a tiny orphan
by Daphne Sheldrick, in Tsavo National Park. A
few years ago it was decided perhaps he would
like a companion and so another orphan, Blow the
Warthog, was brought in. After visiting these 2
characters, the group will proceed to the
Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where, safely kitted out
with a lifejacket, they will steam up the river
on a boat to see the young chimpanzees. To end
this wonderful afternoon, once back at
Sweetwaters, there will be the opportunity to
ride a camel before rejoining their parents and
continuing to Mount Kenya Safari Club for dinner
and overnight.

Day 6: Masai Mara (Approx 7hr30min drive)
After breakfast, you will transfer to Nanyuki
Airstrip for the Air Kenya flight to Masai Mara.
On arrival in the Mara, you will be met by a
driver-guide from Mara Safari Club and
transferred to the Club for lunch. There will be
an afternoon game drive for the parents.
After lunch, the children will be transported to
the nearby Masai Eingang (village) where they
will meet other children of a similar age group,
and be shown around the village. They will have
time to learn something of the lifestyle of the
rural Masai children including how they are
entrusted with the care of their family’s
cattle, the most precious possession of the
Masai tribe; this is done from the early age of
around 5 years old. They will then proceed to
the local preparatory school where they will be
met by one of the teachers. The visiting
children and the local children will then have
time to interact with each other while being
shown around the school. Each child, visitors
and locals alike, will then be provided with
paper and colouring pencils and be given a
project to do: drawing their first impression of
how the other group actually live. Part of the
idea behind this project is to help develop a
mutual understanding of the lifestyles of
children from other parts of the world. The
visit will close with the children swapping
their pictures and having time to discuss the
different impressions that have come to light.

Day 7: Masai Mara
An early morning game drive is followed by a
bush breakfast. Midmorning & afternoon game
drives for parents and an active day for the
children, who depart the Mara Safari Club by
landcruiser and head for a Masai Manyatta where
they will be met by the Masai Warriors.
They will be shown around the Eingang (Masai
homestead) and the basic principles of Masai
life will be explained to them. This will be
followed by an instruction in spear throwing and
the use of bows & arrows. The boys will then
practice themselves until the warriors are
confident they could cope unescorted in the
wild. Meanwhile, the girls will be instructed by
the women of the Eingang on how to build the
manyatta's with wet cow dung and croton poles.
The girls will also receive some instruction in
traditional bead work.
Following this, the whole group will have some
fun & games: learning to jump, skip, dance and
yell in the traditional Masai manner. Then will
probably follow the most important part of the
afternoon from the point of view of the Masai
people. The children will be taken to the cattle
‘boma’ where the principles of breeding, rearing
and caring for the cattle and goats will be
explained to them. Thus making them aware of the
importance of cattle in the Masai culture.
